WINNEMUCCA - The Winnemucca Soup Kitchen has added another serving time, and coordinator Char Smith is seeking volunteers to help. Lunch is now served each Wednesday promptly at noon in the basement of the Winnemucca United Methodist Church.
This brings the tally of meals served each week to five. Lunch is served Tuesday and Wednesday; dinner each Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday at 6 p.m. While much of the food is donated to the soup kitchen, volunteers are the key to feeding the hungry, explains Smith.
Currently, many local church groups, clubs and businesses as well as individuals work to prepare and serve the meals - but more volunteers are always needed. The Tuesday and Wednesday lunches are in particular need of assistance.
Volunteering at the soup kitchen is flexible, and individuals or groups could commit to taking on one meal a month - or just lend a hand when they have a spare few hours. To volunteer your time, contact Smith at (775) 217-1737.
