Parents of Sonoma Heights Elementary School students will have a new option for dropping off students in the mornings next year; the city council has approved a drop-off lane on the Aiken Street side of the school.
Kevin Monsey, construction consultant for the school district, was at last week's city council meeting to request approval of the lane. He said he will take 10 feet of the road and stripe it to be used as a drop-off lane. Sidewalks will also be included in the design. The sidewalk will lead up to the portables on that side of the school.
Monsey said a more complete plan will be ready in the next few weeks.
Mayor Di An Putnam said she appreciated the communication with the district because it's important to coordinate those kinds of things prior to the school year.
According to City Manager/Engineer Steve West, the street receives minimal traffic (with the exception of school traffic) so it shouldn't be a problem for the city.[[In-content Ad]]
