The Lowry High School softball team remained in the hunt for the top spot in the Division I-A North with a three-game sweep at South Tahoe last weekend.
The Buckaroos won a high-scoring affair on Friday 10-8 and swept the Vikings 16-1 and 14-2 in a doubleheader on Saturday to improve 11-1 in the Division I-A North and 12-4 overall.
Lowry has now won 12 of its last 13 games and are just a half a game behind Churchill County, who leads the Division I-A North at 11-0.
Meanwhile, the Lowry baseball team saw its playoff chances take a hit, dropping two of its three games to South Tahoe. The Vikings won the opener 9-6 on Friday and the first game on Saturday 13-8. The Buckaroos salvaged the final game of the series, winning the finale 9-6.
Lowry is now sixth in the Division I-A North at 6-6 and 6-11 overall. South Tahoe leads the league at 10-2. Elko is second at 10-4 and Fernley (7-4) and Spring Creek (8-6) are fourth and fifth, respectively. Churchill County sits fifth at 6-6. Lowry still has three-game series with Churchill County, Fernley and Spring Creek.
Lowry is back in action this weekend with a road trip to Fallon to play Churchill County. The two schools play a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
