WINNEMUCCA - Nevada's small schools will decide their state football champions on Saturday. Two games will take place in Reno, while a third will be played in southern Nevada.
The day at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno will begin with the Division III title game between Yerington and Mountain View. Yerington comes into the game undefeated at 10-0, while Mountain View is 10-1.
Last week, Yerington defeated The Meadows 49-7, while Mountain View knocked off Battle Mountain 24-6. Yerington is looking to win its first state championship since 1981. Mountain View has not won a state championship in football.
The day will be capped off with the Division I-A state championship between Churchill County and Faith Lutheran. The Greenwave enter the title game at 10-1, with their only loss to Lowry. The Crusaders are 11-2 overall and have won 11 games in a row after dropping their first two contests.
Churchill County beat Moapa Valley 34-24 last week and Faith Lutheran beat Lowry 16-8. The Greenwave will be looking to win their first state championship since 1978. The Crusaders are playing in their first state title game.
Pahranagat Valley (11-0) will attempt to win its eighth consecutive Division IV state championship when it plays Spring Mountain (7-2) at 1 p.m. at Indian Springs High School.
