Six to challenge for Miss Winnemucca High Desert Rodeo Queen

Six local girls will vie for title of Miss Winnemucca High Desert Rodeo Queen. They will apply their horsemanship, modeling, speech and rodeo knowledge when they perform Saturday at the Winnemucca Events Complex meeting room.

The public is invited to attend free of charge the modeling, speech, impromptu speech and the horsemanship beginning at 1 p.m. The coronation will be at 4:30 p.m.

The primary purpose of this organization is to promote and increase interest in the representation of the sport of rodeo by exhibiting excelled sportsmanship, high moral and ethical standards as well as added femininity with a regal touch.

Each queen will represent Winnemucca in many events throughout the year. The queens will attend the Ranch Hand Rodeo, the Fourth of July Parade, State Junior High School Rodeo Finals, Silver State Stampede in Elko, Reno Rodeo, SSIR, the Nevada Day Parade and host events at the Tri-County Fair. As an ambassador of Winnemucca, the queen informs the public about the events of Winnemucca.

Bailey Reynolds is the 13-year-old daughter of Fawn Reynolds. She is a seventh grader at the Winnemucca Junior High. Reynolds, has received many awards for reading and art. She is an avid barrel racer with a collection of buckles and saddles on her horses Tears and Buttons. Upon completion of school, she plans to attend Oregon State University and become a veterinarian and a professional horse trainer.

Taylor Gleason is the 12-year-old daughter of Steven and Sammy Kepler. She is a seventh grader attending Winnemucca Junior High School. She has earned scholastic achievements in reading and attendance. Gleason is active in dance, cheer, basketball, baseball, soccer and choir. Her ambitions include completing high school and then attending college to obtain a business degree. She would like to run her own horse ranch and help people feel the same joy that she feels when working with her horses.

Audrey Van Buren is the 13-year-old daughter of Danyle and Jeff Nimmick. She is an eighth grader attending Winnemucca Junior High School. Van Buren has had scholastic honors in reading and math. She enjoys riding horses, hanging out with her friends and her family. She is a barrel racer and has won buckles and jackets in the 4D event. She enjoys "mudding" and classic cars. Her favorite sports include football, rodeo, track and baseball. She plans to attend college at Montana State for her undergraduate and then Washington State University to be a veterinarian.

Kasey Marshall is the 14-year-old daughter of Teresa Smith. She is an eighth grader attending Winnemucca Junior High School. She is a member of the local 4-H and participates in local barrel races. Marshall has won awards in school art contests. Her favorite hobby is riding horses. Her ambitions include attending college to further her horse training skills and someday become a professional barrel racer.

Trynity Reid is the 11-year-old daughter of Cody and Heather Ellingsworth. She is fifth grader attending French Ford Middle School. She is in the accelerated reading and science classes and has completed several Beef Quality Assurance certifications. She is on her school's Honor Roll. Reid enjoys riding her horse and helping her family work cattle. She loves reading and writing. Her favorite sports are volleyball and hunting. Her plans include attending Oregon State to obtain a veterinary degree. She would like to further her knowledge of horses and riding and compete as a local barrel racer.

Catrina White is the 12-year-old daughter of Denny White, Tearesa Smith and Shelly White. She is a sixth grader attending French Ford Middle School. She is a member of the local 4-H and a local barrel racer. White has been awarded in school for her helpful nature. Her favorite hobby is riding horses. Her favorite sport is football. Her ambition is to attend college to become an optometrist or a veterinarian.
