The Silver State International Rodeo will be held in Winnemucca from Monday, July 2, through Saturday, July 7 at the Winnemucca Event Center.
The event will draw over 500 high school athletes and their families here from all over the United States and Canada. In all, Winnemucca Convention and Visitors Authority Director Kim Petersen said Winnemucca could see more than 2,500 people come to town as well as more than $3.5 million in economic impact.
The Silver State competition caps off the regular rodeo season for high school athletes who finished their respective state province in fifth through 15th place.
The event was held in Fallon for 25 years; Silver State officials signed a five-year contract with Humboldt County to bring the event here through 2015 with the possibility for renewal from 2016 through 2020.
Wednesday, parade trophies will be awarded to first-place winners in each category; ribbons will be given to second- and third-place winners. Additionally, a "Sweepstake Trophy" will go to the best overall entry.
Awards will be given out at the evening performance of the Silver State International Rodeo on July 4, before the grand entry at 6:30 p.m.
Entry forms are available from the Winnemucca Convention and Visitors Authority, the Humboldt County Chamber of Commerce, Rose Feed & Livestock Supply, Ron's Seed & Supply and The Humboldt Sun.
