Sigurdson, Jeppsen, Meza, Snow lead Lowry at Big George Invite in Minden

Bucks travel to Fernley on Saturday

A mix of experience and youth is coming to the forefront as the Lowry High School track and field team readies for the regional championships next week in Winnemucca.

The Buckaroos were in Minden last Saturday for the Big George Invitational and came away with a number of strong performances.

Freshman Kenadee Jeppsen tied for sixth in the high jump with teammate Rachel Sigurdson at 4 feet, 8 inches. Jeppsen added a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 31-8, which best among Division I-A competitors. She was 14th in the long jump with a mark of 14-3, which best second-best in Division I-A. Jeppsen added a 17th-place outing in the 400 meters with a time of 1:11.27.

Sigurdson, a senior, placed sixth in the pole vault, clearing 8-6, which was tops in Division I-A.

Freshman Audrey Snow, was .18 seconds short of reaching the finals in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.61. In addition, she was 10th in the 200 meters at 28.48. Haley Webber finished 21st in the 1,600 meters with a time of 7:14.06, Odessa Pearrow finished 12th in the pole vault , clearing 4-4 and she was 28th in the triple jump with a leap of 25-3, Skylar Yost was 28th in the 400 meters at 1:23.20 and Trista Furth was 28th in the 200 meters at 31.13.

Kadie Lynch placed 30th in the discus with a toss of 62-6, Camryn Maher placed 31st in the 400 meters at 1:33.00 and Jaris Dunyon was 34th in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 23.32.

The Lady Bucks were 13th as a team with 8.5 points. Douglas won the team championship with 134 points and Carson was second at 121. Galena (93) placed third and Spanish Springs (76.50) and Yerington (51) rounded out the top five.

On the boys side, Kelvin Meza finished seventh in the 400 meters in a time of 54.46 and was 21st in the 200 meters at 24.56. Sergio Castaneda placed seventh in the discus with a toss of 130-9, which was second in Division I-A. Castaneda was eighth in the shot put with a throw of 42-1.25, which was first in Division I-A.

Alan Mayorga posted a time of 23.94 to finish 11th in the 200 meters and the sophomore was 16th in the 100-meter dash at 11.87. Hayden Jeppsen (11:31.64) and Liam Gallups (11:59.39) were 14th and 23rd in the 3,200 meters and Jed Teichert was 22nd in the high jump, clearing 5-0.

Devin Dowd was 25th in the 800 meters in a time of 2:26.72. Mikeas Somers also posted a 25th-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 34-2.50. Ariel Gonzalez placed 30th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.44 and Bryan Terry finished 30th in the discus with a throw of 83-3.

Lowry finished 16th as a team with five points. Douglas cruised to the championship with 153.11 points and Galena was second at 117.87. Carson (88.5) was third and Spanish Springs (71) and Sparks (35) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Lowry closes out the regular season Saturday at the Fernley Invitational at 9 a.m. The Buckaroos will host the Division I-A/III/IV Regional Championships on May 16-17.
