WINNEMUCCA - Showcase Basketball will be holding the "Shirts and Skills Academy" for area basketball players at Lowry High School from May 18 - 20.
The clinic will be led by Jeff Christensen, current assistant coach with the Reno Bighorns of the NBA Development League. Kids will train like the pros and learn valuable skills and techniques to help them become better basketball players. Teachings will include attack moves and techniques, creating and scoring off screens, advanced ball-handling development, techniques to become a better defender, on and off the ball, and understanding the game and being a well-rounded player.
Not only will kids be put through the same drills as professional players, but they will be taught the many tricks and techniques used by pros, allowing them to build their basketball I.Q. and mold them in to more efficient players.
The event is for boys and girls ages 7 - 17 and the cost is $80 per person (make checks payable to Showcase Basketball). The academy will run from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Friday, May 18, for everyone. Girls will go from 9 a.m. -1 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, and Sunday, May 20, while the boys session will be held from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. Registration deadline is Wednesday, May 9.
