WINNEMUCCA - Local law enforcement officials are calling a drug bust that took place at the Button Point rest area on Interstate 80 a significant seizure of illegal substances, including what is suspected to be heroin.
Humboldt County Sheriff's Sgt. Lee Dove was conducting an area check of the rest area east of Winnemucca about 9 a.m. on April 3. While driving through the parking lot Dove observed a man later identified as Blake Douglas Uhrig slumped forward over the steering wheel, according to a HCSO news release.
Dove made contact with Uhrig, a Wyoming resident, to see if he needed assistance. During a conversation with Uhrig, Dove developed probable cause to believe the vehicle may have contained controlled substances. Dove deployed his certified drug detection dog around Uhrig's vehicle. He applied for and received a search warrant from Union Township Justice Court.
During a search of the vehicle, Dove located several individually wrapped bags containing suspected marijuana. The total weight of all the bags was in excess of 12 pounds. Additional drug paraphernalia was also located as well as a suspected substance believed to be heroin. The sheriff's office did not specify how much of the suspected heroin was seized.
Uhrig, 29, was arrested and charged with transporting marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a controlled substance (heroin) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Humboldt County Detention Center in Winnemucca. Bail was set at $35,327.
