WINNEMUCCA - Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) registration is required in Nevada as of July 1, 2012. To complete the registration process with DMV, persons must have a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Inspection completed by a licensed Nevada OHV dealer or a sworn law enforcement officer if the vehicle has never been registered or titled in Nevada.
In an effort to assist the public in Humboldt County with obtaining the required VIN inspections, the sheriff's office will have deputies available on Saturday, Aug. 24, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to provide these inspections.
The public is encouraged to bring their OHV's to the parking lot located directly across the street from the courthouse on 5th Street. Sheriff deputies will have copies of the required VIN inspection forms with them to complete.
The inspections are for OHVs purchased from a Nevada dealer prior to July 1, 2012, or for OHVs purchased from an out-of-state dealer on or after July 1, 2012. A VIN inspection must also be completed on sales between private parties that were made on or after July 1, 2012 (unless the vehicle is already registered or titled in Nevada).
VIN inspections for a homemade OHV or one constructed from a kit must be completed at a DMV full-service office only.
For individuals needing more information, or copies of other required paperwork to complete your registration process, please log onto www. nvohv.com/registration/
There is no fee for the VIN inspection conducted by deputies and the process should only take 15 minutes depending on turnout.
