Sheriff congratulates new commander, sergeants; thanks retiring sergeant

WINNEMUCCA - Over the last couple of months, there have been some personnel changes within the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Dave Milton was promoted to the rank of commander. Cmdr. Milton is responsible for the overall operation of the Humboldt County Detention Center. He supervises the two sergeants, 10 deputies and two civilian personnel that make up the staff at the center.

Today will mark the final day of service for long-time Sgt. Mike Smock, who also works inside the detention center. Smock's retirement opened up a second vacancy in the sergeant's rank.

In October 2011, Sheriff Ed Kilgore had a sergeant's promotional exam administered to those deputies that were interested and who met the qualifications. Sheriff's deputies Jackie Lynn and Randy Close were selected for promotion by the sheriff.

Lynn assumed her supervisory duties on Oct. 17, 2011. Lynn has been with the sheriff's office since May of 1997.

Close will assume his new role as a sergeant on Sunday after Smock retires. Close has been with the agency for five years, coming to the HCSO after nine years with the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Kilgore would like to congratulate the three listed personnel on their promotions, and wish them the best on all of their future law enforcement endeavors. Kilgore would also like to offer a public thank you to Smock for his dedicated service to the sheriff's office and wish him well in his upcoming retirement.
