Shaver wins Doug Maddox Memorial junior golf tournament

WINNEMUCCA - Josh Shaver defeated Chris Mendoza in a playoff to win the Doug Maddox Memorial junior golf tournament held last Wednesday at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. Each golfer shot a 6-over par 78 to tie for the top spot after 18 holes.

Andy Mendoza was third with an 83 and Jacob Jakich and Josh Rode shot 87 and 93, respectively, to round out the top five.

Ning Landt carded a 106 to lead the way in the girls 14- to 17-year-old division.

In the boys 11- to 13-year-old age group that played nine holes, Trevor Stannard won with a 6-over par 42. Dillon Patterson was second at 54 and Zach Wolverton third with a round of 54. Levi Christopherson and Kobe Stoker were fourth and fifth, respectively, with scores of 57 and 58. Ren Mattson was sixth with a 60 and followed by Zane Fifield (65), Dalton Irons (69), Caden Smith (70), Chayton Drobny (70) and Mateo Hernandez (80).

In the girls 11- to 13-year-old division, Tatyana Carlson won with a score of 55 and Hannah Havens was second at 57. Kelsey Dalley (59) finished third and Kaitlan Morton (74) was fourth.

J.J. Backus shot a 62 to win the boys 8- to 10-year-old group. Kole Mattson was second with a 68, Cal Peters was third at 71 and Hunter Mullins placed fourth with a score of 72.

In the girls 8- to 10-year-old division, Lily Landt won with a 54, Megan Li was second at 76 and Savannah Dalley was third, shooting a 77. Rounding out the division was Emily Backus at 85.
