Campbell, 22, was arrested April 16 after a woman complained he allegedly grabbed her in a sexual manner while she was standing in the aisle at the store, according to court documents. He walked away and, after she got over the initial shock of what happened, she contacted a store manager to report the incident.
Winnemucca police interviewed the woman and sent out the suspect's information to other officers. Campbell was arrested later that day at his place of employment in Winnemucca on suspicion of sexual assault, according to court documents.
A second charge of open or gross lewdness, a gross misdemeanor, was filed against Campbell by Humboldt County prosecutors May 10 after another young woman said that on Dec. 9 Campbell touched her buttocks in the store. She was 16 at the time of the incident.
Detectives showed the teen six photos and she was able to identify Campbell as the suspect who fondled her, court records show. She told investigators that Campbell had followed her around the store.
Campbell's arraignment in district court on the charge of open or gross lewdness has been set for July 9.
Judge Montero in late May refused to lower Campbell's bail, which was set at $100,000 for the sexual assault charge, or to release him without bail.
Public Defender Matt Stermitz sought a lower bail amount for Campbell, but the Humboldt County district attorney's office opposed a bail reduction, arguing the defendant could flee or re-offend.
Campbell was bound over to district court for arraignment on the two charges following separate preliminary hearings in Union Township Justice Court.
The victims were present individually at the court proceedings and identified Campbell as the suspect who allegedly groped or fondled them in the store.
