Seventh-grade Warriors drop opening match to Greenwave WJHS plays in McDermitt on March 2

WINNEMUCCA -The Winnemucca Junior High School seventh-grade volleyball team got its 2013 season underway Tuesday at home against Fallon.

The Greenwave were victorious in the first two games to claim the match, while the Warriors came back to win the third and final game.

"The girls went out there and gave it there best," said WJHS head coach Mary Kay Pace. "You could tell they were nervous out there. It was their first match and they were playing in front of the home crowd. I was very excited that they came back and won the third game. It showed a lot about them."

The coach said she was pleased with the serving of Alyssa Kuskie and the play of Brittany Jacaway in the third game.

"There is a lot of potential with this group," Pace said. "The setters are looking very good and we are doing our best to pass, set and hit as much as we can. We had a handful of days of practice to get ready and are still learning the rotation. There are some things we need to work on and we will concentrate on getting our serve receive better."

The team includes Kuskie, Jacaway, Kepa Bengochea, Hailey Hinkle, Sylvie Prokasky, Kyllie Sappington, Bailey Sapien, Tailor West, Kristen Barns, Jadyn Eastman, Tauni Rolando, Dany Brown and Julia Laird.

Winnemucca is off this weekend and is scheduled to play in McDermitt on Saturday, March 2, at 10 a.m.
