Seniors enjoy spring events

I will try and catch you up on the spring events at the Senior Center.

Easter was celebrated with a special ham dinner and later an Easter egg hunt. Everyone had fun hunting for the hidden eggs and the surprises they held. I think they liked the eggs with money the best.

Several years ago some aspen trees were planted in the back yard. Most of them have died. I think they like a higher climate. Many seniors helped Dayna plant a cotton-less cottonwood tree on Arbor Day. It appears to have some new greenery on it. We all hope it will thrive.

Mother's Day was celebrated with a potted flower for each of the ladies. The volunteer council bought geraniums, yellow bells, petunias in different colors, and a few johnny jump ups to be passed out to all of the ladies. Everyone seemed to like their flowers. Father's Day was celebrated by giving a freshly-baked loaf of bread to each of the men. They seemed to enjoy these small treats.

We brought out a puzzle to be worked. It was a summer scene of many flowers in a garden with a chair, baskets, and a hat in the foreground. Many people helped to put this puzzle together. It had many bright colors in it when it was completed. I guess we will start another soon.

The kitchen had their inspection by the state recently. They were awarded a score of 99. We can be proud of our kitchen and staff.

Bingo is still being played on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. We start at 12:45 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Come and join us for lunch and bingo.

We would like to thank those that have donated books to our library. Everyone seems to enjoy the new books that are donated. Some are looking to read books by different authors.

Lamoille craft fair was held on June 29. It seems to me like it has really grown in the last few years. Ten seniors took the van for the day, enjoying the fair and the interpretive center for the California Trail. A favorite was the homemade lemonade. It was cold and really good. It was made by the Lamoille women. The food lines were so long that most of us did not get a chance to eat lunch. We later enjoyed lunch at the Coffee Mug in Elko.

On the way home we stopped at the California Trail Center. New things have been added since their opening day. Dorothy and I enjoyed the mural paintings done by Peggy O'Neal. We also noticed how they packed the Conestoga Wagons with supplies for their trip. Jerry pointed out on their large map about the trip his ancestors took from Council Bluffs to the Montana wilderness. The map has the original names of the areas that later became states.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe Fourth of July.
