Senior Center to hold ice cream social on June 15 Event to serve as fundraiser for kitchen expansion

WINNEMUCCA - The Pleasant Senior Center will be holding an ice cream social for all ages on Friday, June 15, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the senior center.

The ice cream social will be a fundraiser as the center looks to expand its current kitchen. According to Director Patty Tindall, the original kitchen built in 1984 was able to accommodate around 60 seniors a day.

The center is now serving over 100 seniors, as well as providing food for the Meals on Wheels program.

"Right now about 20 percent of the population in Humboldt County is 65 and older," said Tindall. "We are in need of a new kitchen. We have gone before the county commission and city council and told them of our plans. We have our expansion plans that should be coming back to us by the end of the week."

Works of local artists will be on display during the ice cream social, as well as cowboy poetry and a guitar player.

"This is a good way to inform people of the senior center," Tindall said. "We get confused with Harmony Manor and are asked how many people live there. Nobody lives at the center. It is a place to have lunch and meet people."
