Seahawks complete undefeated season Flag football team goes perfect 8-0

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - After 10 weeks of practice, starting in the hot August sun and finishing in the cool autumn nights, the 19 players that made up the Battle Mountain Seahawks found themselves facing down one final opponent, the Elko Dolphins.

One last hurdle to clear, one last obstacle standing between them and an undefeated season. The kids played with the skill they had demonstrated all season and when the final whistle was blown, the Seahawks' record for the 2011 flag football season stood at 8-0.

The Seahawks took on all comers and conquered them all. They started off the season with a 20-6 win over the Coyotes, then defeated the Dragons 14-6. Next the Raiders were sent packing by a score of 20-18 and rounding out the first half of the season was a 24-12 derailment of the Railroaders.

The excitement was high, as the fifth game of the year was to be played on the Seahawks' home field for the first and only time this year. The Seahawks defeated the Bears in a thrilling match-up of undefeated juggernauts, in a game that came down to the final play 14-6. From there the boys went on to defeat the Leopards 32-12, Cardinals 18-8, and in the finale they played their best game and handled the Dolphins 22-6.

The Seahawks featured a dynamic offense that had their opponents guessing what was going on all game, every game. Leading ground gainers for the season were Terrance Fluharty, Evan Gonzalez and Kaden Beverland, as each of these boys averaged two or more touchdowns per game for the season.

Clearing the path to the end zone was the skillful and aggressive play of the offensive line. This unit was made up of Johnny Laughon, Josh Turner, Nolan Chopp, Danny Elkins, David Walker and Brice Domagala.

Complementing the offense and giving them a short field to work on was a suffocating defense that was led by the triple-headed monster know as the Bard boys, Tyler, Jonah and Brock. Joining these three on the most dominate defense in the league were Brock Bullock, Hunter Andersen, Connor Beristen, Cannyn Bundy, Noah Nigro, Aldo Castellanos and Jenna Chopp.

The kids came to practice and games with the intention of having fun, learning football and demonstrating good sportsmanship. These principles were modeled each and every day for them by head coach Brian Bard.
