BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Lander County School Board recognized the Lander County Sheriff's Office for the month of October.
The sheriff's office is always working with the school to promote safety. Deputies are around the schools in the morning and afternoon watching for the safety of the kids and making sure people abide by the traffic laws. Members also participate with the schools with the DARE Program.
Halloween is an extremely busy time and deputies are there watching for the safety of the kids. They are responsible for giving out the glow in the dark gadgets so traffic can see the kids. They are a great resource and help keep our schools safe.
For November, the Lander County School Board recognized Antoinette (Nettie) Lewis. She takes lunch money and makes staff aware of any student's lunch concerns.
She obviously loves the students and makes a grand effort to learn all their names and makes each one feel special. Lewis has never missed a day of work and is always willing to lend a hand whereever needed.
We are lucky to have such a person to help with our students and what an asset to our staff and district. She is what helps make our district succeed.
