I would like to thank the individuals and families, organizations and companies that sponsored the "Smoked Bear Nevada Wildfire and Wildlife Poster and Essay Contest." They awarded me with a $2,000 scholarship for an essay I wrote pertaining to the reasons for the increase in wildfires in Nevada since 1980.
Before writing this essay I knew very little about the great increase in wildfires and the attributing factors to this increase. This essay raised my awareness greatly and I now know that the number of wildfires is rising potentially due to climate/weather change, grazing-related, vegetation growth patterns and human society's overall lack of fire-safety awareness.
Being more aware of all these potential issues will help decrease wildfires and I encourage everyone to learn more about the plausible causes and possible solutions to prevent more wild land fires.
