Dedicated volunteers of all ages will come together this weekend to participate in a stewardship project to refurbish Lye Creek Campground located in the heart of the Santa Rosa Ranger District. Situated at 7,400 feet, and shaded by a large grove of quaking aspen, this campground is one of the most popular and most beautiful around the Winnemucca area.
Friends of Nevada Wilderness is looking forward to joining their partner organizations, the U.S. Forest Service and Nevada Outdoor School, to make this a successful project on Saturday, June 23. Volunteers and staff will prepare picnic tables for repainting; clear the campground of overgrown vegetation, take inventory of fencing that needs repair and much more!
This project is categorized as "Family Friendly" which means it's open to anyone and everyone. Nevada Outdoor School will also be hosting a Kids Camp with outdoor games and interactive activities. The project will be fun for the whole family and all volunteers will be making a difference!
There is a great deal of work to be done, so if you would like to contribute in this effort with your family, friends, organization or group please contact Friends of Nevada Wilderness. If you have yet to experience the beauty of the Santa Rosas and a place truly deserving of the title, "Paradise" this is a great opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking area.
Barbara Wall, a first-time volunteer with Friends of Nevada Wilderness, had this to say about working on a past project in the Santa Rosa Ranger District: "The weekend experience as a volunteer in the Santa Rosa Range doing restoration work definitely gave me an extra bounce in my step and sparkle in my eyes on Monday morning. It was great to be part of a team with the goal of restoring the wilderness in such a beautiful and pristine area. Very few stories of white emigrants crossing Nevada in the 1800s include the term "paradise," so when you hear of a town with the name "Paradise Valley," you'd do well to check it out ... Definitely a trip to remember."
