Samuel (Sam) Lee Siegfried

Samuel (Sam) Lee Siegfried, born May 13, 1946, departed this life after prolonged illness Nov. 3, 2011. Sam will be remembered for his service as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. During his service Sam served multiple tours in South East Asia during the Vietnam conflict. He served as an airframe and jet engine maintenance specialist. His welding and maintenance skills were the basis of his employment after the service.

Sam's employment ranged from self employed welding contractor and on to the mining industry. He held many jobs thought out his life but was very committed to serving his country and even after leaving the USAF joined the Civil Air Patrol to help his community and teach military values to local youth. Sam was a high performance aircraft pilot, involved in search and rescue where he obtained the certification of incident commander, and a certified Emergency Medial Services first responder technician. Sam had a love for animals which led him to Safe Haven where he helped build safe enclosures for the Rescue.

Sam leaves behind three children, Sherry, Justin and Sam Jr. with a group of grandchildren, his wife Ottie of 19 years and other relatives and friends who will deeply miss him. Sam was a great patriot of this country and proud of his service and would want everyone to remember the sacrifice all veterans make.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at 2 p.m. The service will be at the United Methodist Church, 138 W. Winnemucca Blvd. with a pot luck at Cheers Bar.
