WINNEMUCCA - The annual Saddle-up for St. Jude's horseback ride was held on Oct. 13 at C-Horse Ranch. The weather could not have been better for the leisurely 11-mile ride through the desert, organizers said. After the ride, participants were treated to a BBQ with more games and prizes back at the ranch. There were a total of 19 riders. Moms, dads, kids, grandparents and grandchildren all spent the day riding for a great cause. If you didn't have a friend when you came, you had one when you left. It was a great event and fun for the whole family. The prize recipients included Cadance Mercado, a fourth-grader from Grass Valley Elementary School, who won for the youngest rider. The oldest rider would like to keep her name withheld. Tracy Troike traveled the farthest distance, coming from Battle Mountain. Tracy Troike had a non-injury mishap; she lost her cellphone. Tanisha May won a prize for best recovery - she managed to hang on and stay on. Each rider gathered sponsorships or made a donation to St. Jude's. The event collected $3,486. A special thank you goes out to Tracy Troike, who collected the most money at $1,586. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its research and treatment of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.
