Rural basketball league holds tournament Feb. 9 in Orovada

OROVADA - Rural schools in Humboldt County got together last month for a spirited basketball tournament in Orovada.

In the grades 6-8 championship game, McDermitt came out on top, besting Paradise Valley by a score of 24-23.

In the grades 3-5 championship game, Orovada squeaked by Paradise Valley 23-22.

The All Tournament Players named for 6-8 grades include Layton Johnson-Denio, Shelby Clark-Denio, Megan Sam-McDermitt, Emilio Duarte-Paradise Valley, Zeda Sualez-Paradise Valley, Andrew Villalobos-Orovada, Koco Cornia-Orovada.

McDermitt's Kristen Long was the MVP.

The All Tournament Players for 3-5 grades include Jagger Hinkey-McDermitt, Meiannah Bitt-McDermitt, Alondra Rodriguez-Denio, Gael Rincon-Denio, Shanae Smith-Orovada, Ben Draunidalo-Orovada, Cade Bell-Paradise Valley, Sabrina Sualez-Paradise Valley.

Orovada's Tyler Neu was the MVP.

Some kids played on both upper and lower grade teams.
