LOVELOCK - The local chapter of the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life held its second annual "Run for Love" last Sunday morning. The event drew fewer participants compared to last year's, yet still raised $350.

A total of 14 early-risers, including "Sparky the Firedog," gathered at Courthouse Park and set out on local roads, choosing from three courses. The one-kilometer route headed west on Western Avenue and looped past Lovelock Elementary School, while the five-mile and eight-mile loops involved traveling west on Arobio Road and ultimately returning to town by way of North Meridian.

In addition to a T-shirt, each registrant received a purple "goody bag," including two Detour energy bars, bottled water from Jim's Tire and a numbered bib courtesy of "Road ID."

Relay for Life organizer Valaree Olivas reports that the organization's next scheduled event is a "yard sale" at the Masons' Hall on Saturday, June 2. The overnight relay is slated for June 22 - 23.
