Has anyone ever tried writing a "rule book" on the usage of cell phones? I admit I have never owned one, and have only made a few phone calls by borrowing one occasionally. I realize also that we are raising a whole generation of young people who seem to feel the need to have access to one from the minute they get up in the morning until they go to bed at night.
I just can't seem to understand the fascination with these small instruments, and I admit I probably am joined by only a handful of people in this world who are offended by the lack of consideration and manners that people have while using one.
I really don't appreciate the noise when several phones ring at one time in an enclosed area (such as a supermarket, or a doctor's office), and then have them answered by the users - each trying to talk loud enough to talk over the person standing next to them using their own phones. I really don't want to be forced to overhear private conversations just because I happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
It seems that the general population doesn't appear to even comprehend that there are those of use who could care less about the user's sex life, their bank account balances, what they might be having for dinner or how their children did/did not do that day in school just to name a few topics.
Then of course, the owner of these phones seem to feel the need to check their phones for messages every few seconds as well as answer phone calls even when they are in mid-topic with another person. Every time I hear that person say, "Excuse me for a minute, I really need to take this call," I want to grab the phone out of the offending person's hands and stomp on it. I feel that is the height of rudeness, and an insult to my being and intelligence. This also goes for Tweeting, texting, sexting, playing games or anything else these phones can do. With the technology increasing so rapidly now, who knows, maybe by the end of this decade, we will have phones that can drive cars and do housework.
I know that several states have banned the use of cell phones while driving, and feel sad that the government had to get involved in making laws just because people don't seem to want to use common sense.
So, to all the cell phone owners out there, please consider my feelings regarding my right to privacy. If you feel the absolute need to answer a call, then by all means, go outside and answer the phone.
