WINNEMUCCA - The NV Rural Counties RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) would like to extend an invitation to members of the community to a special presentation featuring training on Citizen CPR as well as other informative presentations.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 2, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Winnemucca Senior Center at 1480 Lay St.
RSVP is partnering with NV Energy and The American Red Cross to host trainings around the state to increase the number of people trained in Citizen CPR; a short, one hour, non-certification course designed to teach untrained bystanders how to perform lifesaving HANDS-ONLY CPR.
Susan Haas, program director for RSVP, will present a brief overview of the innovative free services in the RSVP portfolio - ranging from Resistance Exercise Training to Home Companion and Respite Care visits. These vital services are performed by volunteers in the local community, providing them a way to reinforce their own well-being as well as give back to those around them.
Joining Haas will be Dr. Deb Cash, owner of Kitchen Table Counseling in Carson City and caregiver support group leader. Lora Myles, Esq., CARE Law, will also speak on elder abuse and other legal matters pertaining to Nevada seniors.
RSVP (www.nevadaruralrsvp.org) advocates for seniors at all levels of government for services that keep them in their own homes as long as possible and out of costly institutions. If you would like to learn more about volunteering or services provided to seniors by RSVP volunteers, please join the meeting. Refreshments will be served.
For more information on the event or to reserve your seat, please contact Meri Coury, RSVP Humboldt County field representative, at (775) 623-2748. For information on Citizen CPR training in locations other than Winnemucca, please visit RSVP's website listed above.
