Respite care is a free or low-cost program offered through the NV Rural Counties RSVP Program that provides caregivers with essential breaks. Trained volunteers can provide a break for two to four hours a couple of times per week to help prevent the stress and exhaustion experienced by caregivers struggling with the overwhelming 24/7 responsibility of providing in-home care. Their mission is to provide respite and caregiver support services to Nevada's rural senior and disabled population by helping families avoid premature institutionalization of their loved ones.
Volunteers receive a stipend of $175 per month plus mileage reimbursement. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or if you are a caregiver in need of assistance and would like to learn more about the program, you are welcome to attend or contact RSVP Program Director Susan Haas at (775) 687-4680, ext. 7.
