WINNEMUCCA - The RSVP resistance training program at the Pleasant Senior Center is offering one-hour exercise classes from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Robert Osti is the resistance exercise coordinator for the RSVP program in Humboldt County. The program is designed to help participating seniors increase flexibility and muscle strength resulting in the ability to maintain health and safety while improving the quality of life. There is no charge for this program.
In addition, the RSVP program in Humboldt County is conducting a survey for all interested seniors 55 years of age and up to gauge interest in organizing senior games in Humboldt County.
The games will include basketball free throw, 4-point shot and shooting around contests, football passing and punting contests, nine hole golf challenge and closest to the hole contest, bowling tournament, swimming, softball throw for distance and accuracy, a one-mile walk/run, weight lifting, a card game tournament, a chess tournament, firearms shooting contest and a billiards tournament.
Sam Nobles and Brian Nelson will be participating in the basketball skills contest in Henderson on Saturday, April 20, in the shoot around contest, the 3-point shot contest, the free throw contest and the dribbling agility drill contest.
RSVP has provided an interest survey for the senior games to be completed by all interested participants. Please check the events that you would be interested in and mail them to Brian Nelson, Humboldt County RSVP field representative, Pleasant Senior Center, 1480 Lay St., in Winnemucca or take the completed surveys directly to the senior center.
If there are enough seniors interested in participating in the events, the RSVP program at the senior center will hold the senior game contests in the late spring.
Surveys can also be found at Club Fit, the bowling center, golf club and the library as well as the senior center.
