Ross Miller gets an early jump on campaign for Nevada attorney general with Labor Day visit

WINNEMUCCA - Former Nevada Gov. Bob Miller and his wife Sandy joined son Ross and his wife Lesley in a very visible confirmation that Ross Miller is indeed running for attorney general in 2014.

Bob Miller said on Aug. 31 before the Labor Day parade in Winnemucca that he wasn't sure the announcement had officially been made that son Ross was running for attorney general. But as the Millers' friends and family members gathered around the white parade pickup, he noted it was obvious that it wasn't a secret. The pickup truck had two banners proclaiming Ross Miller for Attorney General, and his parents, children, and friends who were riding and walking in the parade were all sporting "Ross Miller for Attorney General" T-shirts.

Former Gov. Bob Miller is a familiar face in northern Nevada. In addition to being Nevada's governor, Miller was on the board of directors for Newmont Mining Corp. for 10 years. That's the same number of years he spent as governor of Nevada, the longest tenure anyone ever spent as Nevada governor.

The former governor now works for Wynn Resorts and International Game Technology. He is a principal of Robert J. Miller consulting, a company that provides business to government and business to business advice and assistance.

Ross Miller will be term-limited as secretary of state at the end of his current term. He has served as Nevada secretary of state since his election in 2007. At the time, he was the youngest-ever Nevada secretary of state, and the youngest serving secretary of state in the country.

The Millers' ride down Winnemucca Boulevard was the second of three Labor Day parades they packed into one weekend. They started Friday, Aug. 30, in Elko, did Saturday, Aug. 31, here, then rode in Fallon's Labor Day parade on Monday, Sept. 2.

Ross Miller said he was using the Labor Day weekend to meet with people and try to understand the issues important to the attorney general's Office.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval also visited Winnemucca over the Labor Day weekend and attended the Tri-County Fair.
