Robert Gordon Martin

On July 30, 2013, Robert Gordon Martin of Imlay, Nev., went to be with his Lord and Savior.

Robert was born on Oct. 9, 1926, in Yakima, Wash., to Frank and Ardath Martin. When he was 12 years old, Robert and his mother moved to Imlay where he met Miss Edith Lila Bale - later known as Mrs. Lila Martin. His marriage to Lila united him with the Bale family and he was an anchor for his family for the rest of his life.

As an engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad, Robert spent 40 years traveling the railways of northern Nevada while he and Lila raised their daughter, Sue, born in 1945, and their son, Michael, born in 1962. Robert was a teacher, an example, a stabilizing force, and a guardian for his family. We all depended on him and were comforted in the knowledge that he "had our backs."

In 2011, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Lila Martin, after 67 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughter, Sue Nouque; his son, Mike Martin; his grandchildren, William Orr, Samantha Orr, Brianna Martin, Sara Martin, and Amelia Martin; and his great grandchildren, Bethany Loftis, Aaron Kaden, Cassandra Kaden, Robert Clements and Grayson Orr. Robert also leaves behind brothers and sisters through marriage, many nieces and nephews and many friends who loved him and whom he loved.

A memorial service will be held in Robert's honor on Saturday, Feb., 9 at 10 a.m. at Foothills Church of Christ at 14770 Chamy Drive in Reno, Nev. Following the memorial, there will be a potluck reception with finger-foods and desserts. Flowers may be sent to the church and/or charitable donations made in Robert's memory.
