Robert Duane Barber

Bob, our adventurous, loving, generous son, brother, husband, father and grandfather passed away on August 3, 2012. He was one of a kind, some said one in a million. He knew what he wanted from life and never let anything slow him down. At the young age of 52 he had experienced more of life than others do in a lifetime. Coming from a small town, his dream was to travel the world. And indeed he did, to 36 countries for several major companies, amassing huge numbers of frequent flyer miles. Bob enjoyed his job, but was the happiest with his family doing the things he loved, hiking, fishing, golfing and watching his kids play sports. He never missed his daughter's softball games and was so proud of his son's state swimming championship and Ironman racing finishes. He enjoyed taking his family on vacations to Europe and Hawaii. He had a deep, abiding love for his wife of 26 years. Bob had a sense of humor like none other. His wit was unmatched and he was a master prankster, as those he grew up with and worked with on the BLM fire crew could readily attest. Bob was born on June 25, 1960 in Winnemucca, Nevada to Bud and Linda Barber. He was raised in Battle Mountain, Nevada graduating from Battle Mountain High School in 1978. He prized a good education, earning a bachelor's degree from Utah State and graduate degrees from the University of Utah and Michigan State. He married Jennifer Ovard in 1986 and they had two children. He went on to hold many important positions in multiple companies, holding the position of Vice President of Sourcing at Boart Longyear until his death. Bob is survived by his wife Jennifer of Sandy, Utah, a daughter Nikki Day (Brody), son Danny Barber (Demi), parents Bud and Linda Barber of Winnemucca, brother Scott (Julie), nephew Austin, niece Macady all of Sandy, and his first grandson, Cashton Day, who arrived on Christmas Day of 2011, an aunt Mary Ellifritz and five cousins all of Winnemucca, a grand uncle and his namesake, Robert Barber, of Vancouver, Washington, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Doug and Marilyn Ovard also of Sandy. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herschell and Gladys Barber of Orovada and Idaho and Clarence and Erma Edmondson of Winnemucca. He will be so missed. Funeral services were held Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah with interment in Larkin Cemetery. The family had asked that in lieu of flowers a tribute donation be made to the American Heart Association at donate.americanheart.org. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.larkincares.com.[[In-content Ad]]
