Registration now open for Girl Scout summer camp

RENO - Camp Wasiu II, located in the beautiful Sierra Mountains near Sierra City, Calif., is about to open for another summer of adventure.

First-session campers will arrive on July 14. At Camp Wasiu II, girls have the opportunity to spend their summer laughing with new friends, singing their hearts out, trying new things, roasting the best marshmallows and learning from a diverse camp staff. Not a Girl Scout? That's OK. The only requirement: you must be a girl and you must be ready to have fun.

Different camp programs make Camp Wasiu II a perfect fit for every kind of girl. Camp beginners can spend three days discovering how much fun camping can be by enjoying fairytales, campfires, s'mores, crafts, songs, games and swimming with our Faeries and Firelight session.

More experienced campers can choose our six-day session, Wacky Water Week. This camp experience is filled with swimming, canoeing and playing waters games and relays.

Older girls have the opportunity to attend our Counselor-in-Training session, where they will learn the skills necessary to be a great camp counselor. This two-week training for grades 9-12 is designed for girls to build skills in camp programming and operations, camper development, group dynamics and outdoor living, while making life-long friends.

With over 15 camp sessions to choose from, each girl will be able to choose what fits and interests her. Camping is a great way for girls to explore leadership, build skills, and develop a deep appreciation for nature.

At Camp Wasiu II, girls have the chance to learn, grow and make new friends under the guidance of caring camp counselors. This year, six camp counselors are traveling all the way from the United Kingdom, to offer a different outlook and experience for campers.

Whether girls go for a few days or a few weeks, they will have the rewarding experience of meeting new friends, and discovering new, great qualities within themselves.

For parents and girls who want to check out Camp Wasiu II before registering for summer camp, an open house will be held on June 22. This event is free. To receive lunch and a special gift, register by the May 31 deadline by visiting gssn.org and clicking on the Forms and Sessions information. More information about Camp Wasiu II and the different summer camp programs is also available through the website.
