The regional playoffs take the stage this weekend for the Lowry and McDermitt high schools.
The Lowry High School volleyball team (14-2 Division I-A North, 27-3 overall) finished second in the Division I-A North and will host the regional tournament on Saturday.
Lowry will play Truckee at 2 p.m., a team it split its regular season matches with. Elko, who claimed the No. 1 seed will play Dayton at noon. The two winners play at 4 p.m.
It is an NIAA event and admission is $10 for adults. Century Club cards will not work to get in. Students are $5, senior citizens $3 and children under 8 are free. NIAA Courtesy Cards will be honored for the legitimate pass holder and one guest.
The two finalists qualify for the NIAA State Volleyball Championships to be played at Galena High School in Reno on Friday, Nov. 14, and Saturday, Nov. 15. The last time Lowry played in the state tournament was 2006.
The Buckaroo football team finished 6-3 in the Division I-A North and earned the fourth seed. Lowry will travel to Fallon to play Churchill County on Friday at 7 p.m. The Greenwave beat the Buckaroos 34-7 this past Friday. Elko will host Fernley in the other semifinal, also at 7 p.m.
If the Buckaroos win, they would likely play Moapa Valley in Overton on Saturday, Nov. 15. In the Division I-A South, Desert Pines travels to Faith Lutheran and Sierra Vista plays at Moapa Valley.
The Lowry girls soccer team won five of its last six matches to finish fourth in the Division I-A North at 8-6-2. The Lady Bucks travel to Truckee on Friday and Saturday for the regional championships.
Lowry will play regular season champion South Tahoe on Friday at 3 p.m. Truckee will face Spring Creek also at 3 p.m. The championship will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The two finalists qualify for the NIAA State Girls Soccer Championships to be played at Heritage Park in Henderson on Friday, Nov. 14, and Saturday, Nov. 15. Lowry has never played in the state tournament.
Lowry cross country did not qualify as a team for the state championships, but Hayden Jeppsen made it as an individual. He will run at Sunset Park in Las Vegas on Saturday at 1:20 p.m.
The McDermitt volleyball team makes the trip to Elko on Friday and Saturday for the Division IV Regional Championships. The Lady Bulldogs will play Smith Valley on Friday at 8 p.m. Owyhee and Sierra Lutheran play in the other half of McDermitt's bracket at 4:40 p.m.
Virginia City and Eureka start off the day at 3 p.m. and Wells and Whittell face each other at 6:20 p.m.
