WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School boys and girls basketball teams and the McDermitt High School girls basketball team begin their postseason playoff runs this week.
The Buckaroo boys play host to Truckee tonight at 6 p.m. in an opening-round matchup in the Division I-A North Regional Championships. The NIAA is running the tournament, so student body or Century Club cards will not work to get into the game.
If the defending state champions defeat the Wolverines, the Buckaroos move on to the semifinals at Wooster High School on Friday to play either Sparks or Fernley at 4:40 p.m.
Elko hosts Spring Creek and Churchill County visits South Tahoe in the other two quarterfinal games on Tuesday. Those winners play at 8 p.m. on Friday at Wooster.
The championship game is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, with both teams advancing to the NIAA State Championships at Del Sol High School and the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23.
The Lowry girls travel to Spring Creek on Wednesday to meet the defending state champions at 6 p.m. The Lady Bucks finished as the No. 7 seed, while the Spartans were upset by Elko this past weekend and dropped to the No. 2 seed for the Division I-A North Regional Championships.
If Lowry wins, it will play the winner of Fernley and Churchill County at 3 p.m. on Friday at Wooster High School.
