WINNEMUCCA - The American Red Cross Winnemucca service center will be accepting nominations to honor local heroes and citizens at the 2013 Real Heroes Celebration on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Winnemucca Convention Center-East Hall.
This year marks the 12th anniversary of the Real Heroes celebration and local citizens can help the chapter identify those individuals, associations or companies that have gone above and beyond to help a friend, family member, community member or complete stranger during 2012-2013.
Nominees will be recognized in many areas, such as: Education Hero, Workplace Safety Hero, Community Hero (group), Emergency Responder Hero, Community Hero (Individual), Youth Hero and Spirit of Volunteerism Award.
Nomination forms can be picked up at the Winnemucca service center or email Elisabeth.valdez@redcross.org. Nominations will be accepted through Aug. 1 and are open to all residents from Humboldt, Lander and Pershing counties.
Corporations and local businesses are invited to support this inspirational event, which attracts community members from Humboldt, Lander and Pershing counties.
Preferred sponsorships are available at this time. All proceeds from the Real Heroes awards celebration will remain in the area to ensure the local Red Cross is able to provide emergency assistance to local families affected by disaster or house fires, provide assistance to members of the Armed Forces and their families and teach the community about emergency preparedness and lifesaving skills.
Tickets to the event are $10 per person for the awards ceremony and dinner. Tables of eight are also available for purchase.
