Family and friends are mourning the passing of Raymond "Reb" Rodrigues (65) on April 19, 2012, in Prescott, Ariz. A 1965 alumnus of Pershing County High School, Ray was a member of the 1965 "A" State Championship Basketball Team. After serving three tours of duty in Vietnam as a soldier in the Special Forces, Raymond returned home and enrolled in the first class of Western Nevada Community College in Reno and played on WNCC's first basketball team in 1973. Working in the mining industry most of his adult life as a shovel operator, Ray retired in May, 2011. Ray Rodrigues is survived by his wife Katherine of Kirkland, Ariz., his mother Margaret (Castillo) Bonotaux of Reno, and four children and two step-children: Brandon (Stacey) of Las Vegas, Lance (Erin) of Sacramento, Crystal of Fernley, and Chantry (Amy) of Tucson, Ariz.; Chad Denton and Rebecca Alvarez. Ray celebrated one grandson and four granddaughters. His surviving siblings include Anita (Frank) Fisk of Lovelock, Debbie (Chad) Schenck of Sun Valley, Mark (Judy) of Roseville, Calif.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews living locally and throughout the western United States. During his convalescence Raymond lovingly remembered the many adventures with friends he experienced throughout his childhood in Lovelock.
Services and interment with military honors were held in Kirkland, Arizona on April 24, 2012. His family is grateful for the many words of comfort offered by friends who share in the memory of his life. A special thanks goes to those who stayed by his side during his ordeal giving him comfort and strength.
