Randy Eugene Helms, 62, of Golconda, passed away on April 13 in Reno. He was born on July 27,1949, in Denver, Colo., to Margret Helen Sketchley and LeRoy Helms.

Randy's family relocated to the Carson Valley in 1961, where he went to school and played football for Douglas High. He graduated from Douglas and attended the University of Nevada.

He is survived by wife Shannon Helms, son Thomas Helms, daughter Shayna Gouger, mom Betty Arvans and grandchildren Edward, Andrew, Shandee, Raina and Richard.

He was a family man and was very close to his extended family. He was a dog lover and a enthusiast of Nevada history.

Randy was employed by Sharkey Begovich when Sharkey's was first opened in Gardnerville. He met his future wife Shannon Isham there. They were married the next year and have been married for 40 years. He moved to North Dakota in 1978 to work in the oil fields for a year. Moving back to the Carson Valley, he worked at the saw mill and ran a firewood business with his family until the sawmill closed. He then returned to gaming for the rest of his career.

Randy and his wife later moved to Golconda, where he spent his last days surrounded by family. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
