DAVE MUNK • Special to the Sun
Every year, Lowry High School cross country runners take on Winnemucca Mountain in a fun practice run to determine who is "King of the Mountain." In this photo from last week, Richie Bleck (in the lead) and Nate Nelson hit the crest of the mountain (hardly even looking winded) last week. This year's "King of the Mountain" was Ethan Andrews with a time of 38 minutes, 17 seconds. The "Queen of the Mountain" was Jorden Raynor with a time of 55:12. Lowry cross country coach Kathy Norcutt said the tradition of running up the mountain started in 1994 under coach Rob Lindsey. The run starts at Sage Heights and runs up the face of the mountain to the radio towers at the top; there is no set course; athletes are on their own to determine the fastest route.
