BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Battle Mountain Quilt Guild is putting its finishing touches on the 2013 How the West Was Warmed Quilt Show to be held Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Battle Mountain Civic Center.

There are expected to be more than 100 quilts at the event and other quilted items as well, said Samme Engelson, a member of the guild for more than 10 years and chair of the event. Some of the quilts will be for sale, she added.

There were eight vendors signed up as of July 24 - Fabric Chicks, of Minden, Blue Petunia Gifts, of Portola, Calif., Windy Moon Quilts, of Reno, Quilt Stop, of Jamestown, Calif., A Stitch of Country, of Fernley, Twisted Scissor Quilt Shoppe, of Sparks, Creek Side Variety, of Winnemucca, and the Country Store, of the Battle Mountain Quilt Guild, where quilt guild members sell their items.

In addition to the quilts and vendors, guild members will be selling home-cooked food, Engelson said.

"It's worth your time to come and see the local talent, good food and good shopping," Engelson said.

Admission to the event is $5 for adults, $3 for children 5 and over and free for children under 5.

Each show features two special quilters who get to show their items on the stage. This year, Betty Thompson and Marian Filippini were selected.

All of the guild members pitch in to help organize and hold the quilt show, Engelson said. There are different committees for different parts of the show, which is held every other year.

This is the quilt guild's sixth show and anyone can display quilts for free. The limit is 10 per person, Engelson said. Those who would like to display a quilt can fill out a show form at Nolan Realty. Tomorrow is the deadline to sign up.

The 2011 event saw 125 quilts. In past years, the shows have attracted more than 200 people, Engelson said.

"We are hoping to get close to the same amount or more," she added.

On the years there is not quilt show, the guild brings in a quilting teacher. The guild has approximately 30 members and meets the third Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Super 8 conference room. To join, simply show up at a meeting and pay dues of $20 per year, Engelson said.[[In-content Ad]]
