WINNEMUCCA - If the Lowry High School varsity boys soccer team continues the blazing scoring pace it has set in the first four matches of the season, a number school records will certainly fall.

The Buckaroos have found the back of the net 38 times this season, with 22 of those coming from senior Carlos Aguilar. Aguilar set a Lowry record for goals in 2012 with 30 and is on pace to shatter that this fall.

The scoring barrage continued on Wednesday, as Lowry hosted Battle Mountain in a non-conference matchup.

After scoring on just two occasions in the first half, the Buckaroos notched five goals in the second half en route to a 7-0 victory.

"It didn't go our way for a while, but the guys pressed through it," said LHS head coach Steve Swanson. "It wasn't like we were playing bad. We just were not getting the breaks and opportunities we had in our first three matches. We were not any better in the second half, but we found the little breaks that allowed us to score."

The match was scoreless until the 24th minute when Aguilar took a pass from Jesus Escobedo and connected on a shot. Aguilar jumped back on the scoreboard in the 32nd minute off an assist by Giovanni Hernandez.

After netting just two goals in the first 40 minutes of play, Lowry scored often and quickly in the second half. The Buckaroos could not be stopped, scoring four goals in 15 minutes to lead 6-0.

Kevin Blanco was the first to net a goal, with Aguilar following with his third goal of the night to record a hat trick. Escobedo and Hernandez added the final two goals in the span.

Aguilar picked up his fourth goal in the 72nd minute, off a crossing pass from Chris Mendoza. Mendoza played the ball from the sideline and found Aguilar from about 20 yards out.

"It was just not Carlos scoring for us," Swanson said. "He is off to a hot start, but we have other guys contributing. I knew offense was not going to be a problem for us. It was a good chance for everyone to get in and play."

Orlando Pardini recorded his second shutout of the season and has allowed just three goals in four matches.

"Orlando has done a great job to start the season," added the coach. "He is not afraid to come out of the goal and play balls. He doesn't sit and wait for the action to come to him."

Lowry began its season with three resounding wins at the Spring Creek Jamboree last weekend. The Buckaroos knocked off Battle Mountain 8-1 and Fernley 16-2 on Friday, Aug. 30. Lowry closed out the weekend with a 7-0 victory over White Pine.

In the win over Battle Mountain, Lowry scored the first seven goals of the match, with five of those by Aguilar. Blanco notched the first goal off an assist by Aguilar. Mendoza wrapped up the scoring late in the second half.

Lowry doubled its total from the first match and scored 16 goals in the win over Fernley. Aguilar was unstoppable as he had nine goals.

The Buckaroos closed out the weekend by shutting out former Ruby Mountain foe White Pine 7-0. Aguilar notched four more goals in that contest.

"It was the start that we were looking for," Swanson said. "We went in there and did not take anything for granted. We played teams that we should be beat. It was nice that we did not play to the level of our opponent. This group is experienced and was ready to go."

After beginning the year with four easy victories, the schedule get tough immediately as Lowry hosts Truckee on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Wolverines were the runner-up in the 2012 Division I-A North Regional Championships and reached the state tournament. Truckee lost SECTA 1-0, the eventual state champion.

"It gets a lot tougher for us on Saturday," Swanson said. "It will be a true test to see where we are at as a team. They are a team that we have never had good luck against. We know that we can play with them. We will see what happens when it comes to game time."
