I hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth. I don't know why people can't respect the wilderness. On Sunday afternoon, I drove west into Kingston Canyon. There were eight vehicles leaving.
The campsite just past the lake had a log in the pit still burning with 6-inch flames and no one around or anything left in the campsite.
The wind was blowing the flames around. I took the jug out of the truck and got water out of the creek and put it out. The creek was ten feet from the fire pit!
The site just before the sign "No trailers beyond this point." had six empty cans in the fire pit with what was left of fireworks sticking out of them. I took them to the dump.
Both of these campsites were not in an authorized campground but are used on a regular basis. With the forest area being so dry, I do not understand how people can be so careless. There was a light wind so who knows what could have happened.
My response to the careless campers: You are welcome! I hope I prevented a possible tragedy-a wild fire.
Please return and visit our beautiful canyon again but please respect the area.
