WINNEMUCCA - Get ready for the most colorful race in Winnemucca! In mid-September racers will get their clothes, skin and hair colored by participating in the first ever Color the Mucc race.
The Humboldt County Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Humboldt General Hospital to bring this fun and colorful event to life.
Set for Saturday, Sept. 14, the 3K or 5K race will be punctuated with stations where runners get "bombed" with colored packets of powder - with a few more sploofs thrown in at the end for good measure. By the finish line, racers and their white T-shirts are covered from head to toe with party colors - and that's a whole lot of fun, says Chamber of Commerce director Debbie Stone.
The race will begin at the Winnemucca Community Garden at 11 a.m., with the course winding its way through town to end at Vesco Park. There will be music and fun at the beginning, and racers don't need to worry about needing refreshment at the end - Humboldt General Hospital has that well in hand. They will be providing beverages and fruit at the finish line, and adding to the cheering crowds waiting at the finish line.
Registration for Winnemucca's most colorful event is just $20, and includes a commemorative headband and a "swag bag" full of goodies from local businesses. Race participants should keep their headband, Stone says, as it's good for discounts at participating restaurants. Register as a team of five or more for $15 per person.
While it is labeled a "race," the Color the Mucc run is really more about having a great time with friends and family, Stone said.
The race is open to runners, walkers, families and strollers - but no animals due to waste concerns. People of all fitness levels are welcome to enjoy the color-crazy day, so if you're a casual morning walker or a budding triathlete, you don't want to miss this!
The chamber is also seeking sponsors for the color stations along the race. Right now The Griddle Restaurant has nabbed the orange packets, and Country Financial the green - but there are still plenty of colors in the rainbow! Contact the chamber for details.
