PUC staff recommends refunds for NV Energy ratepayers

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Staff at the Public Utilities Commission is joining with a consumer agency in recommending that NV Energy refund about $14.6 million to customers.

Nevada's Bureau of Consumer Protection and PUC staff say the utility earned too much money last year and should return some of the excess to ratepayers.

Last year the utility reported $322 million in record profits and also collected $14.6 million in energy efficiency charges. The company is allowed to recoup revenue it loses as customers implement energy efficiency measures.

But watchdog groups questions the charge given the company's profits.

NV Energy has until July 31 to issue a written rebuttal. A hearing is scheduled Aug. 7.[[In-content Ad]]
