PUC schedules consumer session on proposed NV Energy rate increases

CARSON CITY - The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada has scheduled a consumer session Wednesday, Sept. 4, to hear public comment regarding NV Energy's application to adjust Northern Nevada customer rates.

NV Energy (Sierra Pacific Power Co. d/b/a as NV Energy) has filed an application with the PUCN to adjust general rates charged to all classes of electric and gas customers.

For northern Nevada electric customers, NV Energy proposes to increase the average monthly residential bill an estimated $1.48, or 1.8 percent.

NV Energy proposes to increase the monthly residential electric service charge from $9.25 to $15. The average system impact for all customer classes is an estimated 1.36 percent decrease in rates.

For northern Nevada gas customers, NV Energy proposes to increase the average monthly residential bill an estimated $3.95, or 11.08 percent.

NV Energy proposes to increase the monthly residential gas service charge from $8.50 to $10. The average system impact for all customer classes is an estimated 11.40 percent increase in rates.

Based on the evidence presented in the case, the commission may adopt rates either higher or lower than the rates proposed by NV Energy.

The consumer session will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m. in hearing room A at the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada, 1150 E. William St., in Carson City.

Public comment will be limited to the contents of the application. NV Energy representatives will be present to hear comments and answer questions. Hearings on this application begin Oct. 7. Individuals with questions regarding the consumer session can contact the PUCN at (775) 684-6101.
