Public invited to take part in 'hearts for hospice' fundraiser

WINNEMUCCA - Area residents are being asked to "donate" their hearts to hospice. From now through Thursday, Feb. 28, the Frugal Flamingo Thrift Store is selling "Hearts for Hospice." The paper hearts may be purchased for $1 each. With each name on a heart, "we have another heart donation," said Humboldt Volunteer Hospice Executive Director Sherry Smith. The hearts will then be displayed at the Frugal Flamingo with all proceeds going to help fund the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice. Smith said "Hearts for Hospice" is aimed at encouraging more individuals, businesses and organizations to "partner" with HVH. "We need help from the community in order to make this work," said Smith. "We need physical, emotional and financial support. We need referrals; we need people's growing awareness." She continued, "And that is going to happen as more and more people partner with hospice to make a difference in this community." The Humboldt Volunteer Hospice is committed to honoring and supporting individuals in the Humboldt County community who are suffering from a chronic, debilitating or terminal illness. All hospice care is provided at no cost to patients. Families do not need a doctor's referral in order to access hospice services. For more information on the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice, contact HVH Executive Director Sherry Smith at (775) 625-4263. The Frugal Flamingo Thrift Store is located at 720 E. Fourth St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Donations are gladly accepted during the store's hours of operation.[[In-content Ad]]
