Public comment sought on proposed geothermal plant

WINNEMUCCA - The Bureau of Land Management Winnemucca District is seeking public input on its preliminary environmental assessment for the construction and utilization of a geothermal power plant and power lines as proposed by TGP Dixie Development Company, LLC.

The BLM is inviting the public to submit comments on the proposed project by May 21.

The proposal includes the construction and operation of an up to 70-megawatt, geothermal power plant, a maximum of 30 geothermal production, injection, and/or observation wells, up to three water wells, access roads, geothermal steam/fluid pipelines, an airstrip and airplane hangar, a 230-kilovolt electrical line, an electrical substation and support facilities.

The project is proposed to be located on the northwest slope of the Stillwater Range approximately 25 miles east-southeast of Lovelock. The project area would be within the boundaries of nine federal geothermal leases in Pershing County.

A copy of the preliminary environmental assessment is available for review at the Winnemucca District Office at 5100 E. Winnemucca Blvd. during regular business hours - weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The document may be reviewed online at: www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/wfo/blm_information/nepa0.html.
