WINNEMUCCA - Local residents who are looking for a fun and fulfilling way to spend their time are invited to attend the annual membership meeting of the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary.
The Auxiliary, one of Humboldt County's longest standing and most respected volunteer organizations, will host an informational membership meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, with the goal of encouraging local residents to join.
The group, whose members are known by their pink jackets, serve as the fundraising arm of Humboldt General Hospital.
Since the Auxiliary's inception in 1968, members have donated well over $2 million to Humboldt General Hospital-money that has purchased everything from hospital beds to surgical equipment to an ambulance for the Humboldt General Hospital Emergency Medical Services Rescue department.
Auxiliary members-both men and women-volunteer their time at the group's main funding source, the Poke & Peek Thrift Shop, where they sort, price, display and sell clothing, toys, books and household items. They also help out at Harmony Manor and within the hospital itself.
"This is a very dedicated group," said Humboldt General Hospital CEO/Administrator Jim Parrish. "The Auxiliary has been able to accomplish great things and I know that other members of the community would truly enjoy being part of that effort."
The meeting will take place in the Sarah Winnemucca Conference Room at Humboldt General Hospital, and will include refreshments, door prizes and special guest speakers.
The organization is looking for volunteers of all ages-the Auxiliary even has several junior members-and men and women are both encouraged to join.
"Whether you can donate one hour a month or two hours a week," said Parrish, "we believe this is a cause worthy of your time; this is a great way to give something back to the community."
