BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Those interested in learning the basics of flying and preparing to pass the Federal Aviation Administration's Private Pilot Knowledge test may enroll in AV 110 offered at Great Basin College in Elko this fall and by interactive video to outlying communities, including Battle Mountain, Ely, Winnemucca and Pahrump.
The class will be taught by Shad Hutnyak on Tuesday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Aug. 27 through Dec. 10 in the High Tech Center room 123. The cost is $285 plus applicable fees and materials.
In addition to Federal Aviation Regulations, students will study aircraft airframe and power plant systems, aerodynamics, flight instruments, airport and air traffic control operations, weight and balance, aircraft performance, aeromedical factors, aeronautical decision making, aviation weather, charts and publications, navigation, and cross-country planning.
Shad has enjoyed flying and teaching flying for the past 18 years. He grew up in the Elko area and lives in Spring Creek with his wife and four children. He completed a degree in aviation at Bob Jones University in South Carolina and has since been privileged to have flown all over North America, including Alaska and Canada.
