Prices at the pump trending up for Nevada motorists

Average state price is $3.66 - up 6 cents over June, AAA says

LAS VEGAS - There seems to be no relief at the pump for Nevada motorists as gas prices increase statewide, with an increase of at least 6 cents per gallon of unleaded regular in most metro areas compared to last month's fuel prices, according to the AAA Nevada monthly gas survey.

The average price in Nevada for regular unleaded gasoline is $3.66 a gallon, an increase of 6 cents from June 11. A year ago, Nevada's state average was $3.49 a gallon.

A survey of 13 gas stations in Winnemucca Wednesday morning found a low of $3.69 a gallon and a high of $3.79 a gallon. The average price of gas in town was $3.74, the same as last month's average and a 17 cent increase from the July 2012 average.

Las Vegas has the Silver State's lowest pump price found in metro areas tracked by AAA, where drivers are paying an average price of $3.58. The highest price in gas is registered in Elko, at $3.91 for a gallon of unleaded regular gas, a 2 cent decrease from last month.

The national average price of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.48 per gallon, a 15-cent drop since last month. This price is 10 cents higher than a year ago.

While retail gasoline prices inched lower in recent weeks, rising crude oil prices could mean the national average price at the pump is near its summer-low.

"On a national level, the recent overall declines in retail prices are largely due to regional supply disruptions being resolved," said Cynthia Harris, AAA Nevada spokesperson. "Prices have retreated from lofty highs as refineries have come back online and production has returned to normal levels."

The highest average price of gas in the nation's metro areas that AAA tracks is in Wailuku, Hawaii. The price there is $4.52 per gallon. The lowest is in Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson in South Carolina, where the price is $3.08 per gallon.
