Carlin was the first stop along the Pony Express-like route to hand deliver petitions to Carson City. The petitions are to remove the Battle Mountain BLM District Manager Doug Furtado from his position over his dealings with local ranchers. The first leg of the 317-mile journey was ridden by Elko attorney and County Commissioner Grant Gerber with stops in Battle Mountain, Winnemucca, Lovelock and Fallon throughout the week. The entourage was in Winnemucca Wednesday afternoon and stopped briefly at The Martin Hotel.
